ESPORT IS PROFESSIONALIZED IN SENEGAL, THE MINISTRY OF SPORTS COMMITS ITS RULES BY CREATING A "NATIONAL E-SPORT COMMITTEE"
About the National E-SPORT Promotion Committee
The National Committee for the Promotion of E-Sport (hereinafter "CNP CONAPES") was created by Ministerial Order No. 22 Dec 2021-045975 dated December 22, 2021 of the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Senegal.
Sports competitions are going through a dark period linked to the health crisis we are going through. The biggest meetings have been canceled and the "sponsor" brands of events have become less visible in 2020.
Nevertheless, the video game sector is experiencing an explosion in its audience and its activity thanks to eSport, a competitive practice of video games. Taking the case of mobile phones, video games alone represent 75% of applications downloaded from Stores worldwide. It is currently considered the 10th art, being unquestionably the 1st cultural industry in the world with a market that should generate 159.3 billion dollars in 2020. This represents more than music and cinema combined!
Senegal has a quality Internet infrastructure that will continue to accelerate thanks to the Emerging Senegal Plan including the Digital Senegal vision (SN 2025).
Based on this observation, the Ministry of Sports wanted to provide a clear answer, by setting the legal framework that will promote the practice of this discipline which is becoming more professional through the creation of the “National eSport Committee”.
The National eSports Committee has the essential role of organizing the practice of eSports throughout the national territory through competitions while applying the associated regulations and directives.
THE DETAIL OF THE OBJECTIVES AND THE MISSIONS ASSIGNED TO IT ARE AS FOLLOWS:
to initiate any action to promote and practice E-Sport in Senegal;
to coordinate and develop the practice of E-Sport throughout the territory;
organize regular competitions in all regions;
to program and carry out training and cooperation actions for the development of E-Sport at the national and international level;
to represent Senegal at the level of continental and intercontinental bodies;
to ensure the protection of practitioners.
Its purpose, among other things, is to represent the common interests of economic agents, professionals or amateurs, in the electronic sports sector, as well as to develop, promote, supervise the practice of electronic sports in a spirit of fairness and of human development, in line with the values and main fundamentals of the Olympism.
